Welcome to Spring Semester 2011, and I hope you all enjoyed your Winter breaks thoroughly. We all think to ourselves that there’s nothing to do this early in the semester, but we are completely wrong! Being an Art Major and a Music Minor, I am constantly reminded of the events going on, but that might not be the case for the rest of us. There’s almost always something happening on campus.
For instance, there is a new guest artist exhibition up in the main Watkins Gallery by Nathaniel Stern called “Mind the Gap.” He also did an artist talk last Friday, January 14th in Pastuer Hall 237 at 3:30 pm. Artist talks take place almost every time a new show goes up on exhibit in the Watkins Gallery, and it’s a great opportunity to meet and talk to a working artist fact-to-face. I have yet to see the Stern’s artwork, but I’m really looking forward to seeing the work of a fellow artist. Don’t forget to go and check out out the exhibit—it’s free.
On the music end of events, this evening, Tuesday, January 18th at 7:30 pm, Paul Vance and Natalie Filipovich will be performing on cello and violin respectively. Last time I went to one of their performances, I was awe-struck, and I intend to go again. Such professionalism and musical expression is such a treat to see, and it’s right here on the WSU campus. Tickets for this event cost $10 for adults and $6 for students (with student ID) and seniors.I hope to see you all at these two exciting and artistic events, and don’t forget to check out all of the fine arts going on around campus.
